Medications
What medications may affect my eligibility for a permanent makeup treatment?
Taking certain medications can effect your skin and the way it heals. Taking many different medications at once will also make it harder to predict the effectiveness of a permanent make-up procedure (no, its not the same as a regular tattoo).
The following medications will prevent proper pigment retention and if you take any of these regularly, you should NOT get permanent makeup:
- Triflusal (Disgren)
- Clopidogrel (Plavix)
- Prasugrel (Effient)
- Ticagrelor (Brilinta)
- Ticlopidine (Ticlid)
- Cilostazol (Pletal)
- Vorapaxar (Zontivity)
- Dipyridamole (Persantine)
- Coumadin
Other Health Considerations
Cold sores
If you have a history of cold sores you’ll need to start taking a prescription anti-viral (Valacyclovir, Denavir (penciclovir), acyclovir (Zovirax) or Valtrex), at least ONE week BEFORE your proposed procedure. Cold sore outbreaks are often triggered by stress or trauma to the lips or skin. Therefore, if you are a carrier, a PMU procedure will likely cause an outbreak if you do not take anti-viral medication prior and post treatment. A cold sore outbreak will affect your healing process and the results of the procedure and can even lead to scarring. To ensure the best possible results for clients, we require clients not skip this step. As such, if you have a history of cold sores and do not follow these instructions, Your appointment WILL be cancelled and a cancellation fee assessed when applicable.
Other relevant conditions
The following conditions do not prohibit you from getting permanent make-up, but should be considered when deciding if a procedure is right for you. If you experience any of the conditions listed below, by scheduling you except the possible outcomes described:
- Cirrhosis of the Liver: Susceptible to infection
- Scar tissue: Scars can be tattooed over, however, scar tissue may hinder proper healing or prevent pigment retention. This is more likely if you’ve received a microblading or permanent makeup procedure in the past.
- Platelet Disorders – Causes more bleeding to occur, and thus, lower pigment retention.
- Moles/raised areas in or around the treatment area: Pigment will not be put into moles or anything raised but you can tattooed around them
- Thyroid medications: pigment may fade faster and require more frequent or additional touch-ups
- Auto Immune Disorder of any kind (MS, RA, Lupus etc): Due to the effects of the medication used to treat these disorders, pigment is not retained as well
- Anaemia: requires additional touch-ups
- Tanning: May alter pigment color over time
